I am not a linguist or an international relations specialist – I am simply a research chemist who discovered this modern Mecca of Esperanto enthusiasts at Zaozhuang University. I was deeply impressed by the unique museum and the systematic approach to training specialists practiced here. The visit to the museum and the meeting with the specialists Sun Mingxiao, Alessandra Madella, and their colleagues – true professionals and enthusiasts – left a profound mark on my soul. I could never have imagined that Esperanto is alive and evolving, which gives hope that one day it will take its rightful place as the primary tool for equitable and free international communication.
Upon learning that this very place would host the congress of Esperanto teachers, I simply could not resist the urge to greet the participants and express my admiration. The preservation and development of this language – as a means of simple and universal international communication – is a truly remarkable phenomenon.
Long before visiting this unique center, I had often reflected on how unfair and irrational it is to maintain international dialogue with English dominating, giving its native speakers wholly undeserved advantages. Like many others before me, I inevitably thought of an artificial language in which all users would be on an equal footing. Even a brief exploration of the matter led me to Esperanto as a well-established and evolving language with enormous developmental potential. And the discovery of a strong international community of genuine enthusiasts gives reason to hope that this potential can be successfully realized.
Needless to say, a professional center with ready-made educational programs and a museum housing tens of thousands of exhibits is of great importance for bringing this age-old dream to life. Yet even more crucial is the presence of a core of professional teachers – proficient speakers of this wonderful language. Given that I arrived at my appreciation of Esperanto entirely independently, uninfluenced by fashion or advertising, I believe my view is quite ordinary and trivial – and can serve as an example of a spontaneous need for this tool, which arose in the course of practical scientific work, particularly when preparing international research proposals that sometimes have to be written in three languages: Chinese, Russian, and English… strange, isn't it?
In other words, the need for a universally equidistant language has matured. The time for Esperanto is coming precisely because it is artificial and therefore carries no political or culturally specific baggage. The advent of AI will not diminish interest in learning it; on the contrary, it will promote its development and spread to all spheres of human activity and international communication. The transition from a unipolar to a multipolar world makes the demand for a language of equal communication especially urgent. It is my personal conviction that within this decade, Esperanto will be adopted by BRICS, the SCO, and other organizations that promote equality and free interaction among countries and peoples, with no single country or group of countries dominating. Perhaps your congress should consider addressing the Esperanto congress, proposing that this tool – a soft humanitarian component – be officially introduced to signify a fundamentally different approach to international communication and development.
In conclusion, allow me once again to express my admiration for your dedicated work and to wish you all health and prosperity – for doing what you love prolongs life.
I cannot fail to say kind words about the Chinese government and, in particular, the Ministry of Education, for their far-sighted and consistent support of the Esperanto movement and this world-renowned center for its development.
